Kirkwall's story spans a thousand years; from a tiny Norse settlement to a Royal Burgh with Cathedral and Palaces, to the Kirkwall of today.
The booklet gives a brief account of Kirkwall's past in the form of a walking tour - starting by the Kiln Corner, by the harbour.
On your walk you will meet the characters who created the town, as well as pick up some tales along the street - from the pier to the palaces.
It is common for Kirkwall folk to arrange to meet their friends, simply, doon the street. There is no need to go into further detail. It is part of town, the streets, where folk have met and socialised for hundreds if years. I hope you will enjoy our stroll there, through the narrow streets.
There are many plaques and information boards throughout the walk. Take your time to enjoy these also.
