The place-names of Westray resound loud and clear
Their music reminds me of all I hold dear
In soft Westray accents, the syllables tell
How Westray's long history reads like a spell.
The first edition of 'Fae Quoy tae Castle' was published in 2002 following extensive research on the buildings of Westray undertaken around the Millennium by Westray Buildings Preservation Trust.
The book gave a brief description of each house or other significant building with a photograph of its appearance at that time and, where appropriate, a list of current and previous residents as listed in available National Census returns.
In the 20 years since the book was published, changes have certainly continued and if anything, have speeded up... it therefore was appropriate to create a new 'snapshot in time' in a second edition of 'Fae Quoy tae Castle' to illustrate these changes. The previous occupants of each house are listed, always starting with the present.
