"This little book came about in a rather unusual sort of way. Long, dark, mid-winter days, combined with weeks of recuperation after a major operation, gave me a lot of time indoors. To fill in the time during these long hours, I started to write down stories I could remember about some of the many animals which had shared my years in farming. In time this gentle form of 'Occupational Therapy' grew into this collection of short stories.
When or how the idea of publishing them for others to enjoy came into being, I am not certain, but somehow I seem to have been pushed or pulled into doing this anyhow. It is a challenge which I have enjoyed. If my fellow farmers, and other people out there have shared, as I have, an affinity with animals, get pleasure from these pages also, that will be a bonus."
As everyone who lives and works among animals is aware, they like us humans, have each its own individual personality.
Unlike humans though, they are open and straightforward, what you see is what you get with them, no cheating or double dealing there, they do not know how.
Farmers will enjoy this book because they will be treading common ground beside the writer. Others will enjoy it as they will find it easy to keep pace behind.
