'A Photographic Portrait of Hoy and Walls is a splendid, well-researched book It is a comprehensive view of Hoy in which the author has set out to illustrate the beauty and unique nature of the island and the way of life of its people. He has achieved this with a wealth of beautiful photographs and a minimum of text.
Everyone will find their own favourite pages. I enjoyed it all, especially the geographical layout and the authoritative chapters on the Longhope Lifeboat and Lifeboat Museum, the island's role in both World Wars and the author's interview with the late Sandy Robertson. It's a book I will be reading on cold winter's nights and returning to it for many years to come.
I recommend this book for everyone who loves Hoy which is, after all, the 'Jewel in Orkney's Crown.'' - Dr Tony Trickett MBE, Lord-Lieutenant of Orkney.
