Although the book follows a rural school in the Orkney Islands which opened in 1876 and closed in 1969, when the pupils were moved to join children from two other parishes at a much larger school, it also touches on local education prior to this.
The school was an integral part of parish life during its 93 year existence and the book seeks to document its importance using some 200 photographs, memories, profiles of former pupils and general information. A mix of prose and poetry, English and dialect is threaded throughout the book.
Proceeds from the sale of this book will be donated to the Teenage Cancer Trust Unit at the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre, Glasgow.
