Council and Pier Arts Centre team up to adopt an intern
Orkney Islands Council and the Pier Arts Centre are teaming up for a second time to host an intern through the Museums Galleries Scotland internship programme.
The internship, will provide the opportunity for the successful applicant to work with the council and the Pier, for one year, starting this September.
Supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund’s Skills for the Futures Fund, the programme is aimed at graduates from a broad range of disciplines and backgrounds and is intended to provide an alternative to postgraduate study for those looking to start a career in museums.
In 2011, the programme saw Mirella Arcidiacono chosen to work in Orkney. As part of her role she organised an exhibition across the Orkney Museum and the Pier Arts Centre, bringing material and artefacts together from a limited starting point.
Her final exhibition William Kirkness – a teacher of many parts explored and celebrated the life and work of William Kirkness (1887-1974), handicraft teacher, film-maker and antiquarian.
