Death Notices

CRAIGIE. – Raymond passed away peacefully at The Balfour hospital on the 7th of August. A dear father of Mark and a great friend to many. A man of many talents who lived a full and remarkable life. Will be missed by many.

CRICHTON. – William (Bill) passed away peacefully at The Balfour hospital on Saturday, 1st August, aged 93.

GILLESPIE. – George William passed away peacefully on the 29th of July at St Rognvald House.  He put up a good fight to the end and is at peace now. Husband to Joyce, father and grandfather. I would like to thank Shona and Davie Williams for everything you did for me, running me up and down the road to see George, sometimes coming out at 5am to take me to St Rognvald House. Nothing was ever a bother. I would also like to thank Natasha and Isla for dressing George so well for his last journey. Thank you everyone, Joyce.

GRAY. – John Alexander, Stromness, formerly of Edinburgh and Dunbar died suddenly on Friday, 31st July, 2026, at The Balfour hospital. John was a loving dad to Anna, son to John Sr and the late Maureen, and brother.  Private family only service. Committal to be held in his favourite place, Orkney.

KEMP. – Mary Angus, beloved wife of the late Eric G Kemp, passed away peacefully at The Balfour hospital, on the 31st of July, aged 83.  A dear mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she will be sadly missed and cherished forever. Funeral service will take place at the Peedie Kirk on Tuesday, 18th August, at 1pm.

KERR. – Louis Mangles, passed away peacefully at The Balfour hospital on Friday, 7th August, aged 87. Dearly loved husband of Elizabeth, much-loved dad of Lydia and Papa of Edwin. Sadly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.

MACKINTOSH. – Sally W. (nee Clouston), wife of the late Hugh, passed away 7/8/26.  She will be sadly missed by family and friends.

MUIR. – Helen, Melvin House, Stromness. Passed away peacefully on 29th July at The Balfour hospital. Much-loved wife, mum, gran and sister.
