A concert by the BBC Symphony Orchestra from this year’s St Magnus International Festival will feature on BBC Radio 3 today, at 2pm.

The broadcast will feature a love-themed programme from a concert on June 22, conducted in the Pickaquoy Centre by Alexander Vedernikov.

The performance includes the Overture to Russlan and Ludmilla by Glinka; Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No.2, with soloist Alexei Volodin at the festival’s new Steinway; Tippett’s Ritual Dances from The Midsummer Marriage and excerpts from Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet.

This concert follows on from four hours of recitals which featured on Radio 3 earlier in the summer. The special editions of Radio 3’s Music Matters and Radio 4’s Open Country which were recorded at the Festival are still available to listen again on the BBC Radio 3 website.
