Scrapheap Challenge star returns for second Orkney Electric Vehicle show

Television star Robert Llewellyn is due to host Orkney’s second Electric Vehicle Show, tomorrow, Saturday.

Robert Llewellyn, of Scrapheap Challenge and Red Dwarf fame, is hosting the second Orkney Electric Vehicle Show, tomorrow, Saturday.

The event, which is being held at the Pickaquoy Centre, Kirkwall, will showcase eight different models of electric vehicle this afternoon, with a talk by Mr Llewellyn scheduled for this evening.

Having previously visited Orkney to film an episode of his online web series, Fully Charged, Mr Llewellyn will be providing Orcadians with an update on the latest developments in renewable energy.

“We are going to be busting a few myths about EVs on Saturday,” explained Jonathan Porterfield, who is organising the event.

“Robert is a highly entertaining speaker. He was blown away by what he saw in Orkney the last time he came and his online Fully Charged Orkney programme has had over 55,000 views since it was posted.”

It is also hoped that the event will attract electic vehicle drivers from farther afield, inspired by Mr Porterfield’s own epic journey, back in September 2015.

“People have heard about the mad run we did from John O’Groats to Land’s End and back again in a long weekend and realise it IS possible to get here by just electricity,” Mr Porterfield continued.

“Some of them want to have a go themselves which is brilliant! We are sure they will have a great time when they get here.”
