Twelve people rescued in Stroma cave drama

Twelve people were rescued from Gloup Cave on Stroma, in the Pentland Firth, after their vessel broke down today, Tuesday.

The ten passengers and two crew were on board the rigid-hulled inflatable boat, North Coast Explorer, when it broke down inside the cave.

Aberdeen Coastguard requested the Thurso lifeboat launch and scrambled the Shetland Coastguard helicopter, while a nearby yacht, Gulan, stood by.

The crew and passengers were taken back to John O’Groats by the lifeboat.
