With the referendum vote just over a week away, Baroness Shirley Williams will visit Orkney to make the case for Scotland remaining part of the UK.

Baroness Williams, one of the most popular and well-respected figures in UK politics over the last 50 years, will address a public meeting in the Kirkwall Town Hall on Friday at 7pm until 8.30pm. As well as setting out her perspective on the referendum, she will answer questions from members of the public.

Speaking ahead of the visit, Northern Isles MP Alistair Carmichael said: “Her background in economics and a career-long commitment to issues such as social justice, education and international development make her observations on the current constitutional debate in Scotland all the more relevant.

“I hope that as many people as possible in Orkney take this rare opportunity to come along and hear Shirley Williams speak, and to ask her the questions they want answered as we head into the final days of this long-running campaign.”
