Biggings champion for the second week running

Supreme cattle judge, Phillip Coghill, presents Magnus Baillie with the winner’s trophy.
A visibly delighted Ronnie Baillie said he was “some chuffed” after his two year-old Charolais heifer in calf, Baillieston Eugenie, was awarded the supreme cattle championship at the 2012 County Show.

The animal, by Burradon Talisman and out of Baillieston Venus was the standout beast for inter-breed judge Phillip Coghill.

W.R. Baillie and Co, of Biggings also scooped the reserve in the Charolais section with their bull which won the East Mainland Show, last week.

It was a successful day for East Mainland breeders, as the reserve supreme title went to K and M Eunson, Braebuster Farm, Deerness, with Newhouse Colorado — a five year-old black Limousin bull. Bought at the Perth Bull Sales in 2009, he is by Grenhaugh U2 and out of Newhouse Teak.

In the horse lines, Jo Donaldson, of Skelbist, Berstane Road won the overall title with Woodlands Bay, a 12 year-old Irish draught cross thoroughbred mare.

The horse was presented with the champion’s rosette after a fourth judge was called in to decide the winner, as Woodlands Bay and Princess Diana, the reserve supreme shown by J. W. Taylor and Sons, finished tied.

Princess Diana who won the horse section at the ‘Hope Show earlier in the week is a 6 year-old Clydesdale.

Topping the sheep was a Charollais ewe from Sheena Coghill, Muce Farm, Birsay, while reserve was a Beltex ewe lamb from Alton and Vera Copland, of Overhouse, in Harray.
