One of the most popular events in Orkney’s sporting calendar — the motocross beach race — is set to to take place over this weekend.

The action gets under way at Heddle Hill in Finstown at 9.30am today, with a day of racing.

Burray will then play host to the second stage on Sunday, starting at 9,30am with the junior schoolboys’ contest, followed by the senior and intermediate riders’ events an hour later.

Then, at noon, the three-hour adults’ beach race is due to get under way, with up to 100 racers expected to take part.
