Council delegation gather streetscape ideas

A delegation from Orkney Islands Council is in Poynton in Cheshire today, Wednesday, to gather ideas for Kirkwall’s streetscape ahead of several major projects underway or due to start in the coming year.

During their two day visit, the Orkney team – made up of Bill Stout, Kirkwall BID Project Board member and Kirkwall Councillor, five officers from OIC’s planning management and development, roads services and architecture teams, and Chair of the Council’s Development and Infrastructure Committee Councillor James Stockan – are talking to counterparts in Poynton about their recent regeneration of the central business area.

The group is exploring how Poynton has modelled new approaches to enhance the character of their public spaces and reduce congestion, and whether these could be adopted and adapted for Kirkwall.
