Double inter-county delight for Orkney

Orkney won both the hockey and football fixtures against Shetland in front of large crowds at Picky today.

The hockey girls beat their Shetland counterparts 5-1 to claim the Lady Hamilton Trophy for the ninth consecutive year. Hannah Cromarty hit a hat-trick and was named as the Orkney player of the match.

Fiona Miller and Charlotte Thomson also scored for Orkney, while Shetland goalkeeper Toni Sidgwick picked up the player of the match trophy.

Later in the afternoon, Orkney’s footballers beat Shetland 3-1 to claim the Milne Cup for the first time since 2004.

Orkney went behind after 15 minutes, but pulled themselves level ten minutes from half-time with an excellent free-kick from Jon Tait.

DJ Moffat headed Orkney into the lead ten minutes into the second half, before Tait – who picked up both man of the match trophies – claimed his second goal of the game two minutes later to complete the scoring.
