Hospital flooding bill could be over £100,000

The cost of the clean-up operation at the Balfour Hospital, following the serious flooding earlier this month, could be in excess of £100,000, according to NHS Orkney chief executive Cathie Cowan.

The operating theatre has been out of action since August 2, following the incident caused by a fractured pipe.

Earlier this week, NHS Orkney took delivery of key equipment to decontaminate endoscopes. The equipment has been fitted and NHS Orkney are now again able to provide an endoscopy service.

Subject to satisfactory audits, it is hoped the theatres could re-open early next week.

Further details in The Orcadian on Thursday.
