Dounby kids rock in new museum display

Dounby rocks — that’s what pupils from the community school will be showing folk from all over the world this summer, as their work goes on display at the Stromness Museum.

Euan Dick, aged 11, shows off the selection of cards that his class have developed.

The youngsters have been learning all about geology, design, production and marketing by developing a display for the museum and developing products to sell in the gift shop.

What has resulted is Mineral Minds — a summer exhibition which incorporates the museum’s existing geological collection, an finds made by the school bairns themselves.

Greetings cards inspired by microscopic images of rocks are the first products developed by the youngsters to go on sale at the gift shop, and proceeds will be split between the museum and the school.

The exhibition opens this Saturday, May 4, and will be on display until October. You can find out more on https://stromnessmuseum.org.uk — where the greetings cards are also on sale.
