Hoy Head lengthening plans

Members of Orkney Islands Council’s policy and resources committee have recommended that a project to lengthen and repower the mv Hoy Head be added to its capital programme for 2011-12.

If approved by full council, it’s expected work on the vessel would start in October, 2012, and take around four months to complete.

The work will extend the life of the ferry, while providing additional capacity on South Isles services –  increasing the car capacity from 14 to 24.
