Industrial action vote at Orkney Ferries

Industrial action looks likely to take place by crew members onboard some Orkney Ferries vessels.

Orkney Ferries said on Wednesday that the company had received formal notification from the two unions whose members were balloted on industrial action as part of a pay claim.

Members of the RMT Union, who work aboard ferries serving the outer North Isles, have voted against strike action.

However, members of the Unite Union who work aboard ferries serving the inner North Isles and the South Isles, have voted against strike action, but in favour of taking industrial action short of a strike.

An Orkney Ferries statement said that said that the company now awaits formal notification of what action Unite members might take.
