Inspector gives thumbs up to Stronsay pre-school improvement

Education Scotland has published its findings from its recent follow-up visit to Stronsay Junior High School.

The visit was part of a continued inspection of the school linked to an initial visit carried out in June 2011, when inspectors said there needed to be significant improvements in relation to the experience for pre-school children at the school.

The report published this week demonstrates that the school has successfully achieved this. The inspector found that the learning environment in the nursery class has been reviewed and improved and that there is now a greater emphasis on providing a better range of literacy and numeracy activities for children in pre-school.  The children were also found to be more motivated and engaged in their learning.

Headteacher of Stronsay Junior High School, Andrew King, said: “I am very pleased by the progress identified in the HMIe report and I would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff involved for their hard work. We will continue to develop the work of the school to meet the needs of all the children in Stronsay.”
