Local Development Plan for Orkney

A new Local Development Plan for Orkney is a step closer following completion of a key stage in the process – consideration by the Scottish Government.

The Government completed the final ‘examination’ process last week, and has now written to the OIC outlining some required amendments.

These changes will be outlined to councillors of the development and infrastructure committee in a special meeting in February.

Stuart West, planning manager, development and marine planning said: “We’re pleased to announce that the important step of Scottish Government examination has now been completed.

“We’ll be reporting the recommendations put forward by the minister for local government and planning’s officials, to councillors at the special meeting.

“It’s been a very thorough process to date and we’d like to thank everyone who has taken the time during the review process to share their thoughts, their comments and more importantly their vision and aspirations for Orkney’s future development.”

The Local Development Plan is now due to be formally adopted by the council by mid April.
