MSP questions Loganair over flight delays

Orkney MSP Liam McArthur has raised concerns with Loganair about the extent to which flights to and from the county are being affected by technical problems.

In light of a spate of delays and cancellations over recent months, Mr McArthur has written to the airline asking for figures on the number of flights affected as compared to previous years.

He said: “From my own experience I am aware of what appear to be the increasing incidences of ‘technical problems’ leading to the delay or cancellation of flights to and from Orkney.  In addition, however, I have been contacted by a number of individuals, businesses, and other organisations, who use this service regularly who have expressed similar concerns.

“Whether or not this is part of a wider pattern is unclear, but I have written to Loganair seeking details of the number of flights affected over the last six months. I have also asked for these figures to be compared with equivalent periods over previous years.

“Once we have those figures it will be possible to assess the extent to which this is a problem that is getting worse.  If it is, I will be looking for assurances from Loganair about what steps can be taken to improve reliability in our lifeline air service. I have also indicated my intention to raise this issue at the next meeting of Loganair’s key users’ group later this month.”
