Norwegian visitor in Kirkwall

The Bergen based Norwegian sail training ship Statsraad Lehmkuhl called into Kirkwall for a two-day visit this week, the first visit of the year for the three-masted barque.

The historic ship, which has been a  regular visitor to Orkney for a number of years, arrived from Bergen on Tuesday morning and was due to leave again on Wednesday afternoon.

The 98m long training vessel, which was built in 1914, is owned and operated by the Statsraad Lehmkuhl Foundation.

She was one of a number of sailing ships which visited Orkney last summer as part of the cruise in company leg of the Tall Ships Race.
