The new Papdale halls of residence are to open in time for the new term.

Orkney Islands Council accepted the handover of the new Papdale halls of residence this week with the move of contents from the old hostel beginning today, Wednesday.

The council accepted the handover from Morrison Construction yesterday, Tuesday, after the satisfactory conclusion of testing and commissioning work.

Young people from the outer isles communities will begin moving in to the purpose-built hostel on Sunday ,October 27, just ahead of the new school term.

The new halls of residence, part of the Council’s £57 million Schools Investment Programme, has 62 single rooms – five of them fully accessible – and four twin rooms, all of which have en suite facilities.

OIC report that testing and commissioning work continues at the new Kirkwall Grammar School. Once this is fully completed the process of moving from the old to the new KGS will begin. The school has advised parents and guardians that this will take place over a five-week period, with a public open day planned for both the facilities after the first week in this period.
