Phil Packer MBE takes his British challenge to Orkney

Phil Packer MBE is appealing for people in Orkney to join him on a six mile walk next week — part of a 2,012 mile challenge to raise funds to build a centre for young people facing adversity.

He is hoping to raise £15 million through the BRIT 2012 Challenge.

Organisers are also keen to hear from any local groups, for example the Sea Cadets, Scouts, Brownies or Guides, to get in touch with a suggested route which may be suitable.

Phil served in Her Majesty’s Forces for 17 years and sustained spinal cord damage in February, 2008 while serving on operational duty and was subsequently told it was highly unlikely he’d walk again.

He is hoping to be joined by as many people as possible on Wednesday next week (August 15) on the walk in Orkney. Starting point and time will be confirmed on The Orcadian website ahead of the walk.

If you are interested in joining Phil on the Orkney walk, or can help organise a route, contact clare@arunvalley.net, mobile 07787832322.
