Police reiterate warning to householders following cold caller bank frauds

Police are, once again, warning householders  not to give out any details to cold callers claiming to be from a bank.

A number of bank related frauds have been reported to Police in Lerwick over the past few weeks. The most recent involved a £14,000 fraud from a member of the public in Shetland. There have been other incidents which have resulted in total losses of £10,000.

The caller claims to be looking into recent transactions and proceeds to ask for information such as name and address.

Police are urging householders not to give out any details to individuals claiming to be from the bank, especially details such as bank account numbers, passwords and other sensitive information.

Should anyone feel they have been a victim of a fraud they should contact their local Police station on 0845 600 5703 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 or online at http://www.crimestoppers-uk.org/.
