Private housing appeal in bid to re-home refugees

OIC hopes to resettle two Afghan families.

A plea has been issued to private Orkney landlords, this week, in a bid to secure housing for Afghan refugees.

Islands councillors recently gave their support to assisting Afghan households, if at all possible. But with no council housing stock available to to offer the refugees Orkney Islands Council (OIC) is now seeking two private rental sector properties, as part of the UK-wide resettlement programme.

OIC wants to hear from registered private landlords, or anyone considering becoming a registered landlord, with suitable family properties in the Mainland — preferably Kirkwall or Stromness.

If you could offer a suitable property, OIC would like you to get in touch with its housing team on 873535 or by email to lesley.mulraine@orkney.gov.uk
