Public to be asked opinion on OIC webcasting

The public are to be asked if they are in favour of the OIC broadcasting meetings on the internet, despite a last ditch effort to scrap the whole idea.

The item was up for discussion at the general meeting of Orkney Islands Council which took place this morning, Tuesday, and was a topic which split the chamber down the middle.

The idea of webcasting meetings was previously supported by the OIC policy and resources committee, who agreed to seek public opinion after the matter was discussed at length. The matter came before the general meeting today for further discussion.

After a tied 9-9 vote on the issue at today’s meeting, council convener Steven Heddle used his casting vote in favour of asking the public if this was something that they would like to see.
