The prestigious Cunard cruise liner Queen Elizabeth is due to make its second ever visit to Orkney this Sunday.

The ship is scheduled to tie up at Hatston Pier for the first time, which is now possible since the addition of the extension to the facility.

Last year the ship spent a day at anchor in Kirkwall Bay on her maiden visit to the islands, with the passengers being tendered ashore.

With a gross tonnage of 90,900 tonnes and a guest capacity of 2,068, the 294m long Queen Elizabeth is the second largest Cunard vessel built to date.

There are 16 decks in total, 12 of which are for guests. The ship is due to arrive at Hatston from Invergordon at 8am and depart again at 6pm, bound for Liverpool.

Orkney Islands Council said that Hatston pier will be closed to the public on the day of the visit.
