RNLI rescue 33 in Orkney last year

Lifeboats in Orkney were launched 32 times in 2013, rescuing a total of 33 people, according to figures released by the RNLI.

Kirkwall Lifeboat launched a total of 16 times, rescuing 23 people, Stromness launched a total of 11 times, rescuing four people, with Longhope launching five times, with six people rescued.

RNLI lifeboats in Scotland were launched nearly three times a day during 2013 to attend emergencies, according to the charity’s official statistics.

The charity’s volunteers attended 996 ‘shouts’ in Scotland, during which they rescued 1007 people and saved 29 lives.
