Rovers and Rendall declared champions

Reserve League champions, Rendall.
Reserve League champions, Rendall.

Rovers continued their dominance in Orkney football as they sealed their fifth consecutive ‘A’ League title with a 3-1 away win over fellow Kirkwall side, Hotspurs on Friday night. That win, coupled with Thorfinn’s 1-1 draw with Firth, handed the title to Rovers with three games still to play for the champions. It has been another deserved title win for Rovers, dropping only two points throughout the campaign so far, with 11 games played so far, winning 10 and in truth, no side in the ‘A’ League has been able to mount a serious title challenge to Rovers this season.

Meanwhile, Rendall were crowned Reserve League champions on Thursday night after a 0-0 draw with Rovers. A point was enough for the West Mainlanders who, despite nearest challengers Thorfinn still having three games left to play, made it mathematically impossible to be toppled. Rendall have led the way from the start of July in the league and have only lost twice this season.
