Sanday Sealcam is a first for Orkney

It’s that time of year again when pregnant grey seals come to give birth on Orkney’s shorelines and this year instead of donning waterproofs and trekking to secluded beaches and coves, you can witness the spectacle from your computer.

Sanday ranger, Roderick Thorne, the RSPB’S Enjoy Wild Orkney project and the Sanday community have teamed up to deliver a webcam that monitors all the drama of the seal pupping on the island’s shores.

The service is available between 7am and 5pm at www.sandayranger.org  and there are also images available in Kirkwall’s Visitor Information Centre.

The Sanday Sealcam is a first for Orkney and is acting a trial for a wider network of webcams that will be placed at key wildlife sites around the islands as part of the project.
