A ship-to-ship oil transfer is due to take place in Scapa Flow this week, the first since Orkney Islands Council was granted a new licence to do so.

The transfer is also the first since 2011, as well as since the new OIC ballast water management policy was approved in 2013.

The vessels involved are the Alsace, which has been anchored in the Flow since early February, and the Overseas Portland, which arrived in the Flow last night.

More ship to ship operations are expected to follow in the weeks ahead.
