Almost 40 riders turned out for the Help For Heroes sponsored 40 mile cycle which took place on the roads between Kirkwall and Stromness on Sunday.

Those taking part were seen off by Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Orkney Bill Spence and OIC Convener Steven Heddle, with the convener also completing the cycle.

With money still coming in from the event, which took place between the Kirkwall and Stromness Royal British Legion branches, organiser Steve Waterman from the TA Centre in Kirkwall said that the final total raised could reach well in excess of £5000.

Following the cycle a short ceremony of remembrance took place at the war memorial on the Kirk Green.
