Stromness Co-op plans approved

The OIC’s planning committee has approved plans for a new Co-operative supermarket in Stromness.

The new building will be located at the site of the former West Mainland Mart and, in the past, the design of the building has come under heavy scrutiny from council members and concerned members of the public.

After a site visit by committee members on Wednesday morning, Stromness and the South Isles councillors James Stockan and Rob Crichton remarked that they had received messages both of concern and praise for the building but conceded it was a difficult subject.

Planning committee members approved the application, with one amendment regarding the opening hours.
