Three men rescued after boat sinks

Three men have been rescued after a small fishing vessel — the Lady K — sank off the Calf of Eday this morning.

Shetland Coastguard confirmed they were contacted at 8.25am and tasked their search and rescue helicopter and the Kirkwall Lifeboat to attend.

The Earl Sigurd, which was in the area at the time, recovered the men from a liferaft, with assistance from a number of local vessels, along with the helicopter and lifeboat, and is now on her way to Westray.

A coastguard spokesman said the men are all fine and no injuries had been reported.

It has not been confirmed what caused the boat to sink.
