Weekend launch for Orkney Fuel Poverty Register

A new co-operative has been formed in Orkney to help combat fuel poverty in the islands, and is looking for public support for the launch of an Orkney Fuel Poverty Register at an event this weekend.

Care4Energy has been established by Energy Action Westray to build on the first-hand experience of combating fuel poverty in Westray and utilise this to help others across Orkney.

Care4Energy will have a stand at the Green Homes Event, at the Orkney Auction Mart on Saturday, September 29,between 11am and 3pm, where they will be launching the register and the public are invited to come along and share their details.

Colin Risbridger said: “To be a success, initiatives such as these will really rely on the support of our members and also for those in fuel poverty to come forward and ask for help by joining our register. If you need to spend more than ten per cent of your income to heat your home to comfort levels and power your home then you are one of the 50 per cent of the Orkney population thought to be in fuel poverty and we would love to try to help you.”
