Woman in hospital after entering water at Longhope

A search and rescue operation was made in the early hours of this morning, after a woman was seen in the water at Longhope.

Shetland Coastguard received a call from a local lifeboat crew member at 12.50am, after he witnessed the woman enter the water.

The lifeboat was self-launched and Hoy’s Coastguard Rescue Team was also tasked to do a shoreline search for the woman. The team located the casualty on the shore at 2.20am.

After being assessed at the Hoy Health Centre, the woman was taken to Houton on the lifeboat and transferred to Balfour Hospital.

It is understood that the patient is suffering from hypothermia.
