Additional OIC holiday for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee
Orkney Islands Council employees and school bairns look set to enjoy an additional day’s holiday — as part of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations on Tuesday, June 5.
Although some employers have moved the May Bank Holiday to Monday, June 4 — meaning some will have a four day weekend — this holiday is not observed by the OIC.
Councillors at Tuesday’s OIC policy and resources committee meeting further recommended that staff who cannot take the June 5 holiday, will be entitled to a day off in lieu.
The move, if ratified by full council, means that the Council Offices, schools and all other services, other than those provided on a 24-hour basis, such as care homes, will be closed that day.
