Champion of the Yard at the East Mainland Show 2014 was a homebred, February born, Limousin-cross heifer calf, shown by Balfour Baillie, Sebay Cottage, Tankerness, who also celebrated after winning the cattle section for the very first time.

Balfour said that it was a “brilliant feeling” to win the cattle section, after coming so close many times in the past.

Overall reserve in the showyard was the sheep section winner, a three-crop Texel ewe, shown by show president James Cowe, of Little Howes, Holm.

Although a cool wind blew across the St Andrews Showyard for much of the day, the weather stayed dry for the annual East Mainland event.

A full round-up of the day will feature in The Orcadian, out on Thursday.
