Ba’s on display in Kirkwall

The four ba’s which will be played for this festive season have gone on display in shop windows in Kirkwall.

The ba’s going on show follows on from the Ba’ Committee last month naming the four people who will get the games underway.

The first game of the season, the Christmas Day Boys’ ba’ has been donated and will be thrown up by Ken Amer, Berrybrae, St Ola, and is displayed at his shop, Orkney Photographic, in Bridge Street.

The Christmas Day Men’s ba’ has been donated and will be thrown up by Ian Hutcheon, of 8 Bellvue Park in Kirkwall, 25 years to the day since he won his own ba’ with the Doonies. This ba’ can be seen at Kairds, in Albert Street.

The New Years Day Boys’ ba’ was donated by, and is set to be thrown up by Bryan Guthrie, 34 Royal Oak Road, Kirkwall. It is displayed at McConechys, on Junction Road, which was formerly ATS.

The New Years Day Men’s ba’ was donated and will be thrown up by Sandy McConnachie, of 2 Clumly Avenue, 25-years to the day since he won his ba’ with the Doonies. It is on display at CLAN in Victoria Street.

The ba’ makers this year are, Christmas Day boys’ – Sigurd Gibson, Christmas Day men’s – George Drever. New Years Day boys’ – Danny Bain, and New Years Day men’s – Edgar Gibson.
