Birsay musician shortlisted for fundraising award

Robin Barr has been nominated for the Charity Champion Award at this year’s Scottish Charity Awards.

A Birsay fiddle player has been shortlisted for a Scottish Charity Champion Award.

Robin Barr, who last year undertook his Fit as a Fiddle Challenge in aid of Music in Hospitals and Care has been selected as one of four finalists for the accolade, as part of the 2019 Scottish Charity Awards.

Now in its 13th year, the Scottish Charity Awards highlight the best, most innovative and effective charity organisations and individuals from the past year, and celebrate those who make a difference in our communities. The winners of each category will be decided by a panel of judges and announced at a glittering awards ceremony on Friday, June 14 at the EICC in Edinburgh.

Embarking on an epic journey climbing seven Orkney hills, as well as composing a tune to play at each summit, the 77-year-old raised more than £6,000 for the charity in its 70th Anniversary Year.
You can now show your support for Mr Barr by voting online at https://scvo.org/scottish-charity-awards/vote-2019/charity-champion/robin-barr-music-in-hospitals-care-scotland Voting closes on May 25.
Mr Barr will also be recounting his fundraising journey, as well as playing a few tunes, at the Orkney Folk Festival, later this month.
