Carmichael backs Big Energy Saving Week
Northern Isles MP Alistair Carmichael is calling on people in the isles to participate in Big Energy Saving Week 2012.
This campaign from CAB Scotland is aiming to ensure that people are aware of how they can save money on energy bills and get help to insulate their homes as winter approaches.
Research has shown that fuel poverty is worse in Scotland than in many other areas of the UK. Statistics have suggested that around one in three households in the Northern Isles are in fuel poverty. This year’s Big Energy Week campaign is focussing on the needs of disadvantaged consumers across Scotland.
Mr Carmichael said: “High energy prices are something that affects all of us in the isles. It is important that people are receiving all the advice they need and — perhaps more importantly — the direct support they are entitled to.
“There are a number of things that we can all do to make sure we are getting the best deal on our energy. Things like making sure you are on the best tariff, switching supplier or taking advantage of home insulation schemes when they are available can all make a big difference to your bills at the end of the month.
“I would encourage all of my constituents to take a look at the support that is online and contact my office or your local CAB if they have further questions.”
