Cathedral Christmas tree to arrive shortly

The photo shows this year’s Grimstad tree and the nearly 30 people who came into the the Bringsværd forest for the occasion. This year it was the area’s mayor, Beate Skretting, who used the axe.

Kirkwall’s Christmas preparations are well and truly underway, with the St Magnus Cathedral Christmas tree having been cut down in Grimstad, Norway.

The tree, for the inside of the cathedral, is a gift to the congregation from Fjaere Historical Society. It will travel to Orkney in the coming days to arrive with the Vestland Tree which stands on the Kirk Green and is presented to Orkney Islands Council as part of the twinning arrangements.

The tree will leave Norway this Saturday by ship, arriving first in Aberdeen before it reaches Kirkwall.
