Coastguard tug in Orkney

A new Emergency Towing Vessel for the waters around the Northern and Western Isles is pictured on station in Orkney.

The Herakles — formerly the Anglian Prince — a specialist anchor-handling and towing vessel, will provide an emergency towing service for the Maritime and Coastguard Agency.

The move to station the vessel in Orkney follows the announcement last month by Scottish Secretary Michael Moore that the UK Government will continue to fund an Emergency Towing Vessel (ETV) up to 2015.
