Greater compensation sought for power outages
In a report released today, the House of Commons Scottish Affairs Committee says compensation levels for power outages in the Highlands and Islands do not adequately compensate consumers for the consequences of power cuts, and may not be providing adequate incentives to the power distributors to provide good quality service
The Committee has called on Ofgem to extend the right to compensation for power outs following recent extreme weather to the Highlands and Islands which are currently excluded despite being among the most severely affected.
The Committee noted that SSE did pay compensation to some consumers affected by the January storms, but this should be a right, not at the discretion of the company.
