Consultations on traffic regulation orders extended

Orkney Islands Council is extending several consultations on proposed traffic regulation orders, to help generate a clearer idea of community feeling on the plans. They are:

  • Proposed 30mph zones at B9056 at Quoyloo, Sandwick, including Quoyloo Road and Bristol Road; and at C11 Cairston Road and Howe Road, Stromness.
  • Proposed 40 mph zones in Harray (on the A986 at Harray Post Office); Stenness Village A965); on the A967 near Twatt, Birsay; on the B9050 in the Hillhead area of Deerness; on the C3 (Tankerness Hall Road) at Whitecrest, Tankerness; on C27 Moss Road in Holm; on the A964 at Scapa Brae, St Ola; on the C1 Old Finstown Road/Glaitness Road; and on the B9053 at Scapa Bay, including part of the B9148 from Scapa pier to a point beyond the Crantit Trail Path.
  • Proposed 50mph zones at A986 Madras, Harray; A967 Maggie Garson’s Corner, Sandwick; A964 St Ola and Orphir at Greenigoe; C1 Old Finstown Road from Smerquoy Brae to the 40 mph limit at Walliwall Quarry; B9148 New Scapa Road from Holm Branch Road to the 40 mph limit at the Crantit Trail Path.
  • Creation of on-street disabled parking bays at 29 Clay Loan, Kirkwall; 11 and 12 Lynn Crescent, Kirkwall; 7, 18 and 23 Hordaland, Kirkwall; 38 Meadowbank, Kirkwall; 26 Otterswick Crescent, Kirkwall; 63 and 79 Grieveship West, Stromness; 33/34 Hamnavoe, Stromness; and B9055 at Ring of Brodgar, Stenness.
  • An order prohibiting use of the Ferry Road, Stromness, car park for commercial and heavy use.
  • An order prohibiting the driving of vehicles on any day between the hours of noon and 2.30pm in Albert Street, Kirkwall, from its junction with unclassified Laing Street, Kirkwall to its junction with A960 Broad Street, Kirkwall. (Exemptions include emergency services vehicles).
  • A one-way traffic and prohibition of waiting order on Laing Street, Kirkwall permitting travel from its junction with A960 Albert Street, Kirkwall only in the direction of its junction with B9054 Queen Street/ King Street, Kirkwall.

Only new responses are being sought – those who have already commented will have their views included in a report to councillors in June.

The consultations will close on April 20.
