Council convener delighted as ‘unnecessary barrier to travel’ dropped

The convener of Orkney Islands Council, Councillor Steven Heddle has welcomed this morning’s announcement that Serco Northlink will no longer be asking for photo ID from passengers.

Councillor Heddle said:  “This is very welcome news. The council has opposed this as an unnecessary barrier to travel from the outset, and the applause from the conference when this was announced vindicates that position.

“Personally, having campaigned vigorously against it when it was announced, I find this a happy day.”
