Dementia support … find out more at Kirkwall event
An event to help people with dementia – and those who provide care and support for people with the condition – takes place in Kirkwall on Wednesday morning.
Two Aberdeen-based experts will be on hand for the event, which takes place at the King Street Halls, from 9.30am.
“The event will focus upon the support that people need during and after diagnosis and they have a wealth of expertise to share,” said Tom McGuire, All Age Learning Disabilities and Mental Health Service Manager with Orkney Health and Care.
“This will be of benefit to people with a diagnosis of dementia who want to find out more about the services and agencies in Orkney that provide help and support. It will also be of value to families, friends and others who care for people with dementia.”
It is thought that just under 400 people in Orkney have dementia.
A second event, aimed specifically at doctors, nurses, social workers and other professionals, will take place later in the day at the Balfour Hospital.
