Duke of Edinburgh boots appeal

The Orkney Islands Council team behind the local delivery of the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme is on the hunt for spare walking boots for young folk taking part in expeditions.

They eventually hope to build up a ‘walking-boot bank’ for youngsters to borrow from.

There have been around 160 young people taking part in the award scheme in Orkney this year — a record number for the county. Participants take part in four different types of activity (five at Gold level) — volunteering, physical, skills and expedition.

To donate a pair of boots, contact Walter Gorman at the council offices on 873535 or email walter.gorman@orkney.gov.uk.
